Our Editorial Approach: Sources, Corrections & Clear Roles
Useful financial information needs traceable sources and honest limits. Here is how DebtHelp.ca prepares its educational guides and handles corrections.
We explain, rather than assess your situation
DebtHelp.ca publishes general Canadian debt information. A guide cannot determine whether you qualify for a particular option, predict what your creditors will accept or replace advice based on your circumstances. Formal insolvency questions belong with a Licensed Insolvency Trustee; legal questions may need a lawyer.
Primary sources for consequential claims
We prioritize the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy, Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, Canada Revenue Agency, legislation and relevant provincial or territorial authorities. Sources appear beside important claims and at the end of articles. Competitor websites inform the questions people ask, not our credentials or authority.
Where rules depend on province, debt type or contract, we say so. We avoid presenting a single call-hour limit, asset exemption, credit-report duration or outcome as universal across Canada.
Authorship and editorial checks
The organizational byline “DebtHelp Editorial” identifies content produced for this publication. Guides are checked for structure, clarity and support for factual claims, and published by DebtHelp.ca. We do not invent named authors, professional designations or expert-review badges.
An article’s publication or update date describes its editorial release. It does not mean a licensed professional reviewed the page or that every linked source was revised on that date.
Examples and calculators
Examples are hypothetical. They illustrate a mechanism rather than predict a reader’s outcome. The repayment calculator uses a fixed rate and payment, monthly interest, and no fees or additional borrowing. Actual account calculations may differ.
Images are illustrative brand imagery. They are not images of a DebtHelp office, actual customers or a listed professional’s premises.
Commercial relationships and referrals
This website currently uses direct informational links. It does not operate a lead-selling or paid trustee-referral programme. It does not take debt applications or book a professional consultation. Any future service or commercial arrangement would require its own review and accurate disclosure before being introduced.
Corrections
If a statement appears inaccurate, send the page URL, the relevant passage and a primary source that explains the concern to our website team. We assess corrections against the source and make material factual changes visible through the page’s update date. Do not include private financial documents.
Information can change
Rules, government guidance and contract terms change. Follow the source links, check their dates and ask a qualified professional about the rules that apply to your circumstances before acting.
